When to Book Your Maternity & Newborn session (and why timing matters)

Rachele Faye Photography

Pregnancy and those first days with your newborn move faster than most parents expect. Between growing bellies, baby kicks, and late-night feedings, time has a way of blurring together. That’s exactly why planning your maternity and newborn photography sessions early isn’t just helpful—it ensures you don’t miss the moments you’ll want to remember forever.

At Rachele Faye Photography, most families book weeks (sometimes months) in advance to secure their ideal dates, styling, and session experience. Here’s exactly when to book—and why timing makes such a difference.

When to Book Your Maternity Session

The best time to contact RFP is early in your second trimester to schedule your maternity session to be shot when you are 28 to 34 weeks pregnant.

At this stage:

Your baby bump is beautifully round and prominent

You’re still comfortable enough to move, pose, and enjoy the experience

You’re less likely to feel the fatigue that often comes in the final stretch

Booking earlier in your pregnancy—ideally in your second trimester—is highly recommended. This ensures you have access to your preferred dates and allows time to plan wardrobe styling and session details without stress.

Many of my clients choose to secure their maternity session right after their anatomy scan, once everything feels more real and exciting.

When to Book Your Newborn Session

Newborn sessions are best scheduled before your baby arrives.

Yes—before.

Here’s why: newborn sessions are typically photographed when your baby is between 5 and 14 days old. During this short window, babies are:

Sleepier and easier to gently pose

More flexible and curled naturally into those womb-like positions

Less affected by baby acne or colic that can develop later

Because due dates are unpredictable, the best approach is to reserve your spot during your second or early third trimester. Once your baby arrives, we adjust your session date accordingly.

This ensures you’re not scrambling postpartum trying to find availability during an already overwhelming season.

Why Booking Early Matters

Photography is one of those things that feels like it can wait—until suddenly it can’t.

Booking early allows you to:

Secure a guaranteed spot on a limited calendar

Plan both maternity + newborn sessions together for a cohesive experience

Access styling guidance and custom set design options

Relax knowing everything is already taken care of before baby arrives

At Rachele Faye Photography, sessions are intentionally limited to ensure every family receives a calm, unhurried, and highly personalized experience. This means availability often fills quickly, especially during peak maternity seasons.

What Happens After You Book

Once your session is reserved, everything becomes simple and guided.

For maternity sessions, we’ll plan:

Wardrobe styling (with soft neutrals, textures, and timeless tones)

Location or studio setup

The overall mood and vision for your session

For newborn sessions, I’ll prepare:

Custom styled sets tailored to your aesthetic

Soft, safe posing designed around your baby’s comfort

A calm, baby-led experience with plenty of breaks for feeding and soothing

My goal is always the same: for you to feel taken care of, not overwhelmed.

The Heart Behind the Timing

These sessions aren’t just about checking something off a list. They’re about preserving a season that passes quietly but changes everything.

Your maternity images capture the anticipation—the becoming.

Your newborn images capture the beginning—the arrival of someone who already feels like home.

Both deserve intention. Both deserve planning. And both deserve to be documented beautifully.

Ready to Reserve Your Session?

If you’re currently in your second trimester or approaching your due date, now is the ideal time to inquire and secure your session.
